Pier Ave is a street in Rockport, MA right on the ocean where a group of high school friends found refuge from a world they felt they didn’t belong to. Not only were they allowed but encouraged to be silly, to laugh, to create and most importantly, to be themselves. The oasis beach shack held more than great times for the friends, it also watered the seeds of love and appreciation for Jamaican reggae, which was in constant rotation. After a summer/fall spent rising through the local music scene, Pier Ave dropped their debut album, Conquer, in the spring of 2017 with sweet R&B beach vibe tunes like “Oasis”, fun upbeat ska tunes like “Stickin’ Around”, heavy hitting roots feel tunes like “She No Cry”, and even some surf rock with their tune “Stones”. That year, along with headlining their own successful shows, they also supported acts including The Van Gordon Martin Band, Soul Rebel Project and Rusted Root.
Today the band consists of Chris Fritz-Grice (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Jake Pardee (Vocals, Lead Guitar, Bass), Jay McGuinness (Keys), Thad Fulmer (Bass, Guitar, Vocals), and AJ Maynard (Drums). Although the band members have grown into their own by wending their way through a world that can sometimes be as cold and bitter as the winters in New England, their spirit of togetherness, good vibes, mutual respect and a love of creating great music has only strengthened and now emanates from and is embodied by Pier Ave.
