They say a picture is worth a thousand words. How many words can you fit within a thousand pictures? Especially if you are shooting that many photos every night during a summer tour for your favorite reggae band. Ironically, this is the very last picture I took that night at the very first Reggae Rise Up Music Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2014 – and it happens to be my favorite. I look at this pic and I immediately think what everyone else is thinking – These are the mega powers of modern reggae, the Hulk Hogan & Macho Man of our generation if you will. Two frontmen for bands whose lyrics have impacted me and many others in a myriad of positive ways – Slightly Stoopid & Fortunate Youth. I kept chirping in Miles’ ear all night about how he needs to take FY on tour with them. Milo told me to bring Dan on the bus, and the rest is history. Bonds of friendship formed between authentic souls and marked the beginning of mutual highlife camaraderie.
Two years later I received an email from Matt Phillips, Stoopid’s manager that said he booked the homies to open for Stoops at the 2016 Summer Tour. The “Brodeo” enders where Dan would join the band at the end of each night for a collab song was epic. I was told that my pictures have a certain “energy” in them that brings out the true nature of my subjects, a certain realness that the viewers can relate with and pick up on. I’m very grateful that I was able to capture this moment and many other beautiful moments along the way…
‘Til next week
