A couple of weeks ago saw the release of new material from Alboroise. This time around, the man has paired up with former members of the Wailers to release Alboroise meets The Wailers United: Unbreakable. Regardless of your place in the reggae music scene, it’s hard to deny props on this original, uplifting and deep roots release.
Italian born Alboroise, now on his seventh full length release, has brought out the stops on this one. This is an album full of singles that both reflect on where reggae music has been and where it is today – an unapologetically so. The music on each and every track is, as you’d expect from The Wailers, flawless, tight and utterly authentic. Add to that Alborosie’s distinct delivery and you’ve got a nice slice of music.
Kicking the album off is, in my opinion, a fantastic cover tune. Metallica’s The Unforgiven gets a reggae treatment – featuring the immense talent of Raging Fyah. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical when I first heard about this cover, but I am a firm believer. While managing to stay a bit true to the original, the groove on this track takes it to new heights. Things pick up and get better from there throughout the album.
Tracks like Lie, Mission & Table Has Turned are all old school bass heavy groovers with catchy hooks that will have you singing along. Mixing things up a bit is the uptempo Contradiction – featuring the smooth delivery of Chronixx and some great horn work. Calling back to Mr. Marley himself is Too Rock – a beautiful piece of music featuring the soulful voice of Beres Hammond.
The stand out track for me is the title track – Unbreakable – this one featuring J Boog. It is a definite rager that caught me from the beginning. This highly danceable tune had me up and bobbing on the first listen and has worked its way into my favorites playlist.
Overall, there’s not really a bad track on the album and I think it’s Alborosie’s best album to date. I hadn’t listened to much of his stuff prior to this one, but I’ll now be going back and checking out his previous albums. Go check it out for yourself.
