As COVID 19 is sweeping our world, “The Spirit” has a message we urgently need. “The Spirit” was written by Rion aka Ryan Liestman (Jonas Brothers), Paul Westerberg (The Replacements) and Michael Bland (Prince, Soul Asylum).

How did it happen? Looking for a change of pace from their usual routine, long-time writing/production partners Rion and Bland asked Westerberg if he’d spend a few days writing at Rion’s house. “The Spirit” is the gift from those neighborhood sessions. In Rion’s living room, with the help of an acoustic guitar and piano, “The Spirit” was created. As they wrote, the trio followed the energy of the moment. Lines like “If you fear it when you’re near it watch out! Can you hear it?” seemed to fly around the room effortlessly.

Rion (Ryan Liestman) is a former member of the Jonas Brothers (2007-2013). He tours internationally and releases music as a solo independent artist. He has toured with and opened for artists including Cyndi Lauper, Ziggy Marley, Damian Marley, and Nick Jonas. Due to COVID-19, many of his upcoming performances have been postponed. Rion is set to perform at this year’s Harbor Bar Reggae Festival in Red Wing, MN on July 26, 2020. He will also be touring in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile in the Fall of 2020. “The Spirit” was recorded live and filmed at Creation Audio in Minneapolis, MN. It will be available on all major streaming platforms on April 10, 2020, along with the accompanying music video premiering today exclusively on Reggae 360.
